Just Peace Month
Discover The Hague as The International City of Peace and Justice during Just Peace Month. A month of (online) events on Peace and Justice in The Hague
Every year, many international organisations in The Hague open their doors to the public within the framework of the International Day of Peace. An excellent opportunity for citizens of The Hague as well as for people from outside the city to find out how work is done towards bringing about a better world from the international city of peace and justice. Due to corona containment measures, the programme has been adjusted and the partners of the The Hague International Day, Just Peace, and 75 Years of Freedom and other partners jointly organise a month of (virtual) activitities under the name ‘Just Peace Month’ in The Hague.
During this month, you will be immersed in the world of peace and justice. Many activities are offered online so that you can participate from the comfort (and safety) of your own living room in events about topics such as human rights, improving (online) security, and assistance in humanitarian disasters. You can also participate in activities on working on your inner peace, folding 1,000 cranes, and taking a tour of the international zone in The Hague. During the Just Peace Month, you will hear more about companies and organisations that work on innovative solutions for a better world.
Mrs Saskia Bruines, alderman International: ‘Just Peace and the The Hague International Day have become an annual tradition in The Hague and are visited by many. This year, due to corona measurements, the program has changed. It is a special year as well: on 24 October, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. As a UN city and as the home of the International Court of Justice and many other UN organisations, we want to focus on the significance of the occasion. During the Just Peace Month, we show the rest of the world how work is done from The Hague day in day out on achieving a better, more just, and safer world.’
The Just Peace Month starts on Sunday, 20 September, with an official opening at the Museon at 1:00 p.m. The activities will continue until and including 24 October. All Just Peace Month events – including a live talk and a film on freedom of the press and the ‘speak-up concert’ for Peace and Justice – can be found on the website justpeacethehague.com/en. Due to the corona containment measures, the admission to the activity location is restricted, so register soon!
