The Movies that Matter Festival 2021 will take place from April 16 – 25. In the preparation we focused on a festival on location and online. We hoped to welcome you in The Hague, traditionally our festival heart. But it was not to be. Fortunately, the online festival can continue. On our website you can choose from the wonderful range of films and in-depth programmes. Because whatever happens, the Movies that Matter Festival 2021 will continue. No Matter What.

About the Movies that Matter Festival

The Movies that Matter Festival in The Hague is the international festival about human rights and a sustainable society in the city of Peace and Justice. For ten days, more than 60 film titles can be seen in over 300 film screenings on location and online. In film theaters, cinemas and other cultural locations in The Hague, the audience enters into conversation with filmmakers, experts and activists, there are workshops and master classes for filmmakers, and national and international premieres.

In Activist, documentaries about the work and lives of human rights defenders are shown in collaboration with Amnesty International. Camera Justitia focuses on the importance of the rule of law and the fight against impunity. The third competition program is Dutch Movies Matter, with Dutch feature films and documentaries that open eyes to human rights. The festival also organizes an extensive education program for pupils and students in secondary education and MBO in Amsterdam, The Hague and a number of satellite cities. The best festival films go On Tour through 16 cities across the country.
