Utrecht International Comedy Festival

If you like to laugh, you can’t miss the Utrecht International Comedy Festival. In 9 years, this Utrecht comedy festival has grown into the Dutch version of the Edinburgh Fringe with the most stand-up comedy shows per square meter. In 2022, the festival will be bigger than ever. As a ‘headliner’ they present the two-day Big Binge of Comedy in TivoliVredenburg. In the week before, the UICF put on dozens of shows at various locations in the cathedral city.

The start is February 23, after which the comedy violence thunders through Utrecht for eleven days. All smiles are massaged – because we go for that hard laugh – but we also want to show how surprising stand-up comedy is as an art form. The UICF wants to be at the heart of society with shows that are not only funny, but also tackle painful and controversial topics with humor.

A selection of the topics of the shows: Out, Proud & Underground, a special LGBT show with jokes about discrimination and sex. Comedy and drugs come together in ‘Laughing gas and laughter’: comedians under the influence (with appropriate accompaniment, of course). In addition, there is an expat show in which the Dutch culture is filleted and a roast of our beloved Utrecht by the one and only Stadscomedian from 030.

The big closing event of the festival is the Big Binge of Comedy. For two days, well-known national and international comedians play the tiles of the roof while new comedy stars warm up in their wings. The UICF takes over TivoliVredenburg with stand-up comedy of the highest order. In 7 different halls with more than 60 comedians, they really get the most out of it.

The Utrecht International Comedy Festival has become one of the most appreciated comedy festivals on the European mainland. Not to be missed if you like sharp jokes, bizarre philosophies that make you think and lightning fast interaction with the audience. Whether you just want to laugh with a beer in your hand, or want to be touched by a hilarious or sensitive story: at the UICF you can find it.
