Moving Futures Festival: The Woman Destroyed

In The Woman Destroyed, choreographer Courtney May Robertson explores the complexities of submission and resistance. The audience is invited to experience the development of the performance simultaneously with Courtney; as she responds live to the demands of an indifferent entity. In this climate of uncertainty and total vigilance, questions about bodily autonomy and control systems surface.

Courtney (Scotland, 1992) is a performer and maker, living in Rotterdam. After graduating in 2013, she joined Club Guy & Roni's Poetic Disasters Club and has since worked with Jan Martens and Connor Schumacher, among others. In addition to her work as a performer, she has been making her own, small-scale produced work since 2015. The Woman Destroyed is an important step in her development as a maker. Trained as a dancer, Courtney's work starts from the body but then extends to various disciplines such as: video, generative art and writing.
