The International Kite Festival Scheveningen is the largest international kite event in the Netherlands. During the festival, the most special kites from all over the world can be admired to the south (left) of De Pier. Almost every year, the largest kite in Europe is present during the Scheveningen Kite Festival. Because of the fantastic spectacle, the event is a perfect opportunity for a fun day or weekend with children at the beach of Scheveningen!
Breathtaking spectacle
During the Scheveningen Kite Festival, kite flyers from dozens of countries present kite shows and demonstrations in various themes and disciplines: power kiting, stunt kite flying and mega kite single-line kite flying. The shows offer a breathtaking spectacle with kites in fantastic colors, countless sizes and with the most amazing shapes. On Saturday evening after 20:00 kites with lights will be launched into the air.
Fly your own kite
There is always enough space next to the demonstration area to fly your own kite. Novice and experienced kite flyers, big or small, everyone is welcome to fly their own kite.
Workshops for children
There are several workshops for children during the festival where they can make and decorate kites themselves. You can also buy a ready-made kite at one of the stands.
Scheveningen
As the Netherlands' most famous seaside resort, Scheveningen has numerous attractions, such as De Pier, SEA LIFE and LegoLand Discovery Centre. After a lovely walk on the beach, you can have a nice cup of coffee or a delicious bite to eat at one of the beach bars that are open in winter.
Accessibility
Scheveningen is easily accessible from the center of The Hague by public transport, car and bicycle. In all cases it takes about fifteen minutes. Those traveling by public transport can take tram lines 1 and 9 and bus lines 21, 22 and 23. From The Hague Central Station you can use tram 9 in the direction of Scheveningen. There are several parking garages in the immediate vicinity of the beach: These are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and all three are within a ten-minute walk of the boulevard. The best way to go to Scheveningen is by (moped) bicycle. This is the fastest, especially in good weather. There are many unguarded bicycle parking spaces in Scheveningen. Directly on the beach there are also several guarded bicycle sheds from Biesieklette, where you can park your bicycle for free.
