Spring really started with the Delft Symphony Orchestra's spring concert led by conductor Frank de Groot.

On Saturday evening 20 April, the Delft Symphony Orchestra, conducted by conductor Frank de Groot (DSO), will play its spring concert in the Lutherse Kerk in The Hague. Young talent Isaac Lottman will solo on the cello.
The spring concert opens with a sunrise over the Greek sea, in the form of the Helios Overture by Danish composer Carl Nielsen. This is followed by the world-famous Enigma Variations, beautiful and mysterious music by British composer Edward Elgar. In 14 variations, the composer sketches his wife, friends, family and secret lovers. Moreover, the music carries a mystery that remains unsolved to this day.
Dvořák
After the break, young talent Isaac Lottman will solo in Dvořák's cello concerto. Initially, the Bohemian composer did not want to write a solo concerto for the cello because the sound of the cello would be 'too nasal' in the high register and 'too mumbling' in the low register. After hearing a cello concerto by a fellow composer, Dvořák changed his mind anyway and wrote the piece of music that is still loved all over the world today.
