French patissier Denis Botrot came to the Netherlands for love and has been the proud owner of Tartine since 2022. His shop offers the most delightful croissants, tarts, and éclairs, as well as savory dishes like quiches, soups, and croque monsieur. Everything is freshly prepared daily in the spacious open kitchen, where visitors are welcome to take a peek.

Denis feels completely at home in the Statenkwartier. Here, he can finally do what he loves most: decide for himself what to create. No routines, no fulfilling orders, unlike his previous roles as a chef in restaurants in France and Switzerland, and at various embassies in the Netherlands. Since 2006, he has lived in The Hague, where he enjoys the sea, much like in his birthplace, Normandy, and eagerly jumps on his surfboard whenever he gets the chance.
Always Surprising
The range of viennoiserie and bread is extensive and consistently available, but the patisserie selection changes weekly.
“It depends on what I feel like baking. I always have enough ingredients in stock to be creative, and I source fresh ingredients, like fruit, from local businesses when needed. Lemon meringue pie and éclairs are our top sellers, as well as our crispy almond croissants.”
These croissants fall under the category of viennoiserie: sweet pastries or ‘fine bakery items that are not bread,’ including apple turnovers and pain au chocolat. Every week, there are also new fresh soups, salads, and takeaway meals available.
“I make various jams and, in winter, the classic bûche de Noël and Christmas menus. I never run out of ideas. I draw inspiration from French culinary magazines for professional chefs and put my own spin on it. I feel at home here and hope my customers feel at home with me too.”
